There are various interface methods used by MAPI for Exchange Server and OpenMsgStore is one of them which help in opening a particular message store. This method is associated with the IMAPISession interface and passed to ImsgStore object so that it can be further accessed by the user. Once in a while it fails and the following OpenMsgStore Failed error starts getting displayed in the application event log:
“The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available.
Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance.
The MAPI provider failed.
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
ID no: 8004011d-0526-00000000”
The aforesaid error is logged with event ID 9175 and generally occurs in the 2000 and 2003 version of Exchange Server. It causes a lot of frustration to the people leaving them perplexed because all the data on the server becomes inaccessible. Every time the user tries to access the file, the OpenMsgStore Failed message begins popping up in front of their computer screen and an application log is generated.
The main reason behind this erroneous error can be that the mailbox store is unable to get mounted or the Information Store (IS) is not running. There are many reasons for the IS to stop working and some of them are summarized below:
- Using expired Exchange Server evaluated version
- Partition where the IS files is stored is less than 10MB
- Information Store is in dirty shutdown state or corrupted
In order to rectify the OpenMsgStore Failed error from popping up again, the user need to first of all make sure that the Information Store is running or not. It can be verified by going to the Services and then check its status. If it is working, then find out whether the mailbox store is mounted or not. In case if it is not mounted then it is advised to restart it. To avoid the mounting failure to occur in the future, users should make sure that they replay all the transaction log files.
If the OpenMsgStore Failed error is not rectified and it is not possible to access the data located on the database, then it is recommended to use Exchange Server Recovery tool that can fix all the corruption using powerful scanning and algorithm based programs. The software is compatible with all versions of Windows operating system and it can recover the deleted emails and messages from the database. It is easy to use and can repair the corrupted EDB files efficiently and effectively. The software comes with demo version also and if the users are satisfied with its overall performance, then they can upgrade to its full version.
